Children’s Hospital to expand to Peabody

PEABODY - World-renowned Children’s Hospital Boston has decided to expand its services to the North Shore with a $46.5 million purchase of property located in Peabody’s Centennial Park.
The roughly 25.7 acres of land will serve as the home of Children’s Extended Care Center, Inc., a non-profit out-patient clinic affiliated with the Boston hospital. It will be located just off Route 128, close to the intersection of Route 95 North. The hospital will occupy approximately 120,000 square feet of space.
“There is increasing demand for subspecialty pediatric care from North Shore families and 10 Centennial Drive provides a great location and space for us to respond to that demand,” said James Mandell, MD, chief executive officer of Children’s Hospital. “It is convenient to our patients and their families and allows us to free up space at Children’s downtown location for the most critical needs.”
Children’s has leased space in the Lahey Clinic North Building for the past 10 years. With business growing and their lease expiring in March 2011, purchasing a bigger lot seemed like the best option.
“We are very pleased, as you can gather,” said Mayor Michael Bonfanti. “The city of Peabody is thrilled to have Children’s Hospital join the emerging medical mecca that Centennial Business Park is becoming. This is a win-win-win.”
Bonfanti also said that the new location will add great benefits to the community.
“This is great news for our city in terms of jobs, economic development and the spin off that some 300 jobs and a state-of-the-art medical center will generate,” he said.
