Lynnfield car chase ends in Manchester-By-The-Sea
By Dan O’Brien/The Daily Item
LYNNFIELD-A seemingly nervous Gloucester man was arrested Saturday after he failed to pull over for a Lynnfield police officer and led police on a chase that ended in Manchester-By-The-Sea.
However, police said they weren’t trying to pull Kevin Simone over, but were actually responding to an unrelated medical call.
Police said Simone, 41, of 9 Norman Ave., Magnolia, had three outstanding warrants for domestic violence and likely fled because he thought the officer was pulling his car over to arrest him.
“The gentleman knew he had warrants for his arrest, didn’t realize the officer was responding to a medical call and took off,” police dispatcher Dianne Williams said.
The officer began to pursue the vehicle at 10:07 a.m. outside the Lynnfield police station at the corner of Main and Summer streets, police said. The chase ended in a backyard at 387 Summer St. in Manchester-By-The-Sea.
Simone allegedly drove onto Route 128 and left the highway at exit 15. With the assistance of Beverly, Manchester-By-The-Sea and state police, officers followed Simone as he wound through side streets, at one point illegally passing two vehicles on Arbella Street with speeds reaching 60 mph on Lincoln Street.
Simone allegedly stopped his car and exited through the passenger door at 380 Summer St. and ran through the home’s backyard. He allegedly hopped a six-foot fence, breaking part of it, and ran through two more backyards before police caught him.
Police said the suspect was examined at a hospital but was not seriously injured. No officers were injured.
Simone was charged with reckless operation of a vehicle, driving with a revoked license, failing to stop for police, obstructing an emergency vehicle, speeding and resisting arrest. His three outstanding warrants for domestic violence charges are from the Beverly, Saugus and Lynnfield police departments.
Williams said Simone was transported to the Middleton jail and held without bail until an arraignment, which is scheduled for today in Peabody District Court.
