LYNN – A total of 3,483 employees were on the city payroll in 2007 with a total bill of roughly $138 million.Teachers account for 1,400 city positions, school employees aside from teachers total 739 people, 357 employees work at City Hall including Inspectional Services, Department of Public Works, and Parking, 242 police officers, 192 fire department employees and 28 library employees.Factor in 230 part-time election workers, 75 snow removal employees, 100 part time DPW summer help, and 120 part-time City Hall workers, and the number escalates to 3,483.City Treasurer Richard Fortucci said the number would jump by the thousands if every person who was paid by the city were detailed.”The summer help barely makes $1,000 for the season, and we have some people who only make a couple hundred bucks,” he said. “But people aren’t interested in those who make so little, they’re interested in the people who make say $125,000.”Fortucci said the lowest amount paid to an employee for help in the city was most likely $50.”The amount of employees really depends on whether we’re going to have an election year or how much snow we get,” he said. “So it differs from year to year.”
