LYNN – Road resurfacing on the northbound side of the Lynnway is scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. today, weather permitting.Alternate lanes will be closed for the work today and Wednesday.The paving is expected to be the finishing touch after years of work by National Grid to upgrade the Marine Boulevard substation and install underground cable and conduit.Roadway restoration was scheduled to begin Monday evening for removal of the existing road surface, and paving will start this morning and will last throughout the evening.The work will reportedly be complete by Wednesday afternoon, but it remains contingent upon the weather.Tom Donahue of National Grid said the work is being scheduled around peak traffic times.”We expect hot top crews and the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) to be out at 7 a.m. and finish around 4 p.m.,” he said. “The project is all starting to wind down now after a few years.”Donahue said the substation upgrades service West Lynn, downtown, all of Nahant, the Lynnway, Diamond District, and a portion of Swampscott.Poor service in those areas led to a request for an upgrade by residents.Sidewalk restoration will start soon after and is not expected to delay traffic. Exact dates are not yet known.
