SAUGUS – Former Massachusetts state trooper John Foley and his wife Patricia pleaded innocent in federal court Friday to charges they were dealing drugs.If convicted, they could face up to 20 years in prison.They were released after they both posted $25,000 bond.According to published reports, Foley told U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration investigators he was simply acting as his wife’s drug mule when he was caught selling cocaine in his cruiser – allegations Patricia’s attorney, Joseph Machera, denied.Massachusetts State Police informed Foley that they were going to initiate court-martial proceedings against him.Officials said when Foley requested retirement, he was dishonorably discharged.The 36-year veteran Trooper who was assigned to the Revere Beach barracks, is accused of selling cocaine to an undercover agent in Saugus on Oct. 11 according to a court documents.Foley, 62, was then arrested for cocaine distribution on Nov. 30.Foley previously said he believes a woman who was dating a police officer that he and his wife socially met up with had something to do with setting him up.Aside from the charges, Foley is also known for lending his strong singing voice to various community events and funerals in Lynn, Saugus, and Revere.
