Comcast employees to spruce up Lynn Library

Robin Kaminski

April 15, 2008 by Robin Kaminski

LYNN – The Lynn Public Library is set to receive a mini-makeover courtesy of Comcast in May.Over 200 Comcast employees and family members will participate in a “Comcast Cares Day” May 2 and 3, as part of a day of service to benefit the community.Chief Librarian Nadine Mitchell said the North Common Street building was chosen to receive the assistance and will get a fresh coat of paint in the Children’s Room, lower rotunda area, the ceiling in the media room and some of the offices.Expansion plans for the library are currently on hold while the city focuses its attention on completing Manning Field and fixing Classical High School, so until then, Mitchell said the spring cleaning would help to spruce up the area.”This is just a first step in brighter days for the Lynn Public Library,” she said. “The trustees and the staff are sure the public will be pleased with the outcome.”A light blue color has been chosen for the main children’s room with white paint on the columns, neutral beige for the lower rotunda, and a buttery yellow for the children’s program room.”I had the department heads pick out the colors, because they have to live with them,” she quipped. “The mural of course will remain in the area.”Mitchell said if the weather is cooperative, the volunteers would help custodians clean up the grounds as well.A cookout will be held in the rear of the library as part of a family fun day for the employees.Because of all of the ladders, paint cans, tools, and tarps over the books and media, Mitchell said the library would be closed for safety reasons May 2 and 3, and would reopen May 5.”Be sure to come in on Monday to see the fresher, brighter effect these generous people will have achieved,” she said.Mitchell gave a special thanks to Library Trustee James Marsh and Andrea Scalise, mayoral aide to Edward J. Clancy Jr. for helping to organize the project.
