SWAMPSCOTT-Swampscott United Community Coalition for the Enhancement of Swampscott Schools Inc. (SUCCESS) has awarded grants totaling almost $5,000 to two Swampscott High School teachers.SUCCESS is a non-profit community-based educational foundation that distributes funds through its grant program to enrich the school district.Since its inception in 1989, SUCCESS, Inc. has awarded grants for innovative classroom projects, development of teaching strategies, special programs, new books and materials.Lytania Mackey and Joanna Ganci are the two fall 2008 grant recipients.Mackey was awarded $2,370, which she intends to use to purchase a Classroom Performance System for her biology students. The new technology allows teachers to assess student understanding of material while increasing student learning.Ganci, an English teacher, was awarded a $2,500 grant, which will be used will build a comprehensive graphic novel library. According to Gucci, the high school library has less than a dozen graphic novels, which are becoming increasingly popular with students.
