SWAMPSCOTT – Swampscott firefighters are good cooks, according to two local boys.Henry Wright, 8, of Swampscott and his buddy Kevin Coffey, 8, of Nahant ate their fill at the Swampscott Fire Station on Wednesday morning. The boys won the breakfast at the firehouse in a Stanley Elementary School auction.Wright said it was his first visit to the fire station and he was having the time of his life.”It’s incredible,” he said. “I ate bacon, scrambled eggs, french toast and sausage. I think I ate 50 pounds of bacon.”Coffey said it was his first visit to the station and he loved the kitchen.”They are good cooks,” he said. “I love their bacon. I ate a lot.”Firefighter Steve Greenbaum cooked the bacon and all the other firefighters on duty pitched in.Chief Michael Champion picked up the tab for the breakfast. After the boys ate their fill and scrambled off for a tour of the fire apparatus, the firefighters remaining in the kitchen joked about how they didn’t get any bacon because the boys ate it all. Amanda Wright, who is the mother of Henry, explained her son is from England and bacon in the United States is very different from that in England.Firefighter Glenn Bartram explained to the boys the pieces of apparatus carried on the ladder truck, which they oohed and aahhed over.Coffey was impressed with the axes and generator that are carried on board.”Wicked,” he exclaimed.Wright was fascinated when Bartram told them the firetruck carries strobe lights that are used to set up areas for Medivac helicopters to land.Amanda Wright, who is the vice president of the Stanley Elementary School PTA, explained breakfast at the fire station was one item in an auction that raised approximately $19,000 for Stanley Elementary School.
