SALEM – Two local men accused of robbing a Saugus Walgreens at knifepoint and leading police on a high-speed chase were two of five men indicted Wednesday afternoon by an Essex County grand jury.Thomas Ryan, 30, of 16 Longwood Ave., Peabody, and Jorge Delvalle, 31, 423 South St., Reading, were charged with armed robbery in connection with the Aug. 14 holdup at the Walgreens Pharmacy, 1228 Broadway, on Route 1. The chase ended when the car crashed into a Walnut Street home in Lynn.Ryan is also charged with assault with a dangerous weapon on a person over 60, a cash register, and Delvalle is charged with assault and battery in connection with the holdup.According to reports, the two men entered the pharmacy store at about 7 p.m., wielding knives and demanding money.The store clerk quickly handed over the cash register draw containing an undisclosed amount of cash.In the meantime, Ryan allegedly assaulted a 60-year-old man from Saugus with the register draw and Delvalle struck the elderly man as they both fled the scene in a black Mitsubishi driven by a third man, Kenneth Stoddard.Saugus police responding to the scene chased the suspects in a high-speed pursuit with speeds up to 60 mph through Saugus and Lynn until the Mitsubishi crashed into a home at 226 Walnut St.The home sustained serious damage as a result of the crash, according to reports.No injuries were reported and the money stolen was recovered by police inside the Mitsubishi.Stoddard, 21, of 30 Windsor Road, Medford, is charged with operating a motor vehicle negligently as well as being an accessory after the fact of armed robbery in connection with the case.Assistant District Attorney James P. Gubitose is prosecuting the case for the state.Also indicted:Peter J. Lincoln, 45, of 43 Riverbank Road, Saugus, was charged with three counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under the age of 14 and a single count of indecent assault and battery on a child over the age of 14.The charges arise out of sexual misconduct with two girls, ages 12 and 16, who said they were sexually abused by the defendant.The 12-year-old girl told authorities that she was improperly fondled at his home between Jan. 1 and Feb. 28. The older girl said she was indecently abused on July 17.Police arrested Lincoln at his home on July 22 following an investigation.Assistant District Attorney Christina P. Ronan is assigned to prosecute the case.Brian L. Peterson, 60, of 52 Pine St., Peabody, faces three counts of rape of a child involving sexual abuse of a girl at his home between May 30, 1990 and May 29, 1996, beginning when she was age 10 until she was 15.The victim was known to Peterson at the time of the sexual misconduct.Assistant District Attorney Kate B. MacDougall is prosecuting the case.Indictments are not an indication of guilt: rather it is a legal process that allows a case to be transferred from District Court to Superior Court allowing for a more severe punishment.
