The Marblehead girls cross country team clinched the Northeastern Conference/South title in style on Monday at Gatchell Playground as it ran past arch-rival Swampscott, 19-39.”It is a great feeling,” Marblehead coach Jen Emblidge said. “We haven’t had the title for a while and most of my girls ran personal bests or close to it (Monday).”The Magicians (6-0) took home five of the top six spots, led by Mary Kauffman’s personal best time of 19:28 over the 2.9-mile course. Chloe Heskett was third overall (20:11) with Molly Depew, fourth (20:21); Madeline Piela, fifth (20:21) and Carly Robb, sixth (20:32).Winthrop 15, Saugus 40At Winthrop, the Sachems’ (0-7) Kristen Capraro finished sixth overall.BOYS CROSS COUNTRYMarblehead 20, Swampscott 39At Marblehead, the Magicians (5-2) swept to four of the top five spots against their rivals. The game was tied 1-1 at halftime.Georgetown 2, Lynnfield 2At Lynnfield, the Pioneers (3-12-2) saw the potential game-winning goal called back late in the second half because of a quick whistle near the Georgetown net.
