SAUGUS – Police said they are seeking a middle-aged man who unsuccessfully tried to hold up a Route 1 Walgreens with a handgun early Sunday morning.”We are working on reviewing surveillance footage now,” Saugus Police Assistant Chief Ronald Giorgetti said Tuesday.Police responded to the Walgreens on Route 1 at 3:08 a.m. Sunday on the report of an armed robbery, according to the Saugus Police log. Giorgetti confirmed the suspect walked into the store and showed a handgun, but Giorgetti said the suspect left the store without any money.Giorgetti described the suspect as a white male in his early 50s with short, white/gray hair, and as approximately 5-feet 6-inches tall and weighing about 170 pounds.Giorgetti said the suspect was wearing a black jacket. The log also noted the suspect had glasses and a baseball cap. Nobody was hurt in the incident and the suspect fled in an unknown direction, according to Giorgetti.He added that police have images of the suspect which will be released to media and area police departments, and that the investigation is ongoing.
