Jason Fleury, 37, was arrested this afternoon in Hampton, Virginia after an Essex County Grand Jury issued a secret indictment on Friday charging him with the murder of Jaimee Mendez. Mendez, 25, was last seen on November 6, 2014. Her remains were discovered on January 28, 2015 on King’s Beach in Swampscott.”This has been a long and pain-staking investigation, with a single goal; justice for Jaimee Mendez,” District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett said. “I want to thank every member of the investigative team including Massachusetts State Police detectives, Swampscott, Lynn and Salem Police as well as the many assets that were deployed during the search for Jaimee.””I’m pleased with the joint efforts of local and state police in this investigation resulting in the arrest of Jason Fleury,” said Swampscott Police Chief Ronald Madigan.Fleury was arrested by Massachusetts and Virginia State Police, Swampscott and Hampton, Virginia police. He will be held overnight at the Hampton, Virginia Police Headquarters. He is expected to be arraigned as a fugitive from justice tomorrow in Hampton, VA General District Court. If the defendant waives extradition, he will be transported to Massachusetts where he will be arraigned for murder in Salem Superior Court. If he does not waive extradition, the Essex District Attorney’s Office will be required to obtain a Governor’s warrant to bring him back to Massachusetts.
