LYNN — Police are investigating after a Lynnway gas station was robbed at gunpoint by two masked men early Sunday morning.
Police responded to Gulf gas station, located at 525 Lynnway, shortly before 3 a.m. and learned that a 29-year-old male clerk had been robbed by two men who came into the store with a handgun, Lynn Police Lt. Michael Kmiec said.
The suspects told the clerk to empty the cash register, and the men reached over and grabbed the money before fleeing the store, Kmiec said.
State Police assisted in attempting to track the suspects down with a K9 officer, but the search was unsuccessful, Kmiec said.
The robbery comes about a week after Lynn Police sent the Lynn Area Chamber of Commerce a warning about recent armed robberies to businesses. In October, five convenience stores and two liquor stores were robbed at either knife or gunpoint. In each of the robberies, the suspect’s face was covered with either a mask or hood.
Kmiec said stores in Lynn are going to have to look at what stores do in big cities — a lot of those stores lock their doors and have buzzer systems that allow customers into the stores.
Police have also recommended precautions such as having multiple people working in the stores and having windows free and clear of signs so people can see in.
