SAUGUS — Saugus is seeking to apply for a Community Development Block Grant to lessen the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Offered by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts’ Department of Housing and Community Development, the grant would give the town an opportunity to provide assistance to microenterprises — a commercial enterprise that has five or fewer employees, one or more of whom owns the enterprise — addressing the effects of the coronavirus crisis on small local businesses.
A public notice provided by the town clerk’s office stated that a funding opportunity of $9,651,876 has been made available through the Coronavirus Aid Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act of 2020 to DHCD by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Awards will be limited to a maximum of $400,000 per single municipality, and the town may provide grant funding of up to $10,000 per business to qualifying microenterprises adversely impacted by COVID-19.
More information on the grant will be presented during a virtual Zoom meeting on Friday, June 5 at 12 p.m.
