PEABODY – The Tanners boys soccer team beat Danvers at their home opener and first game of the season, 5-1.

Danvers took the lead early in the first half on a goal scored by Dino Celicovic but Peabody’s Bruno Correia wasn’t far behind, tying the game at the eight-minute mark.

“For the first five or ten minutes of the game we were kind of discombobulated and we didn’t move the ball around. Danvers is a physical team and we didn’t do any scrimmages against teams that are physical like they are,” said Peabody’s coach, Stan McKeen. “It took us a little while to adapt to their physicality and how they play. We had a higher skill level than them and we moved the ball out and around more. We also took advantage of our shots and because of that we were able to put five in the net.”

Jaiden Fils-Aime scored for Peabody at the thirty-minute and fifty-one-second mark in the first half allowing the Tanners to take the lead 2-1. Victor Maciel made his way down to the net and scored at the thirty-two-minute and four-second mark bringing the score to 3-1 at the half.

“The last twenty-five minutes of the first half I thought we controlled and gave them nothing. The first goal, that’s the problem you’re going to have with a short goalie. It was a great shot that went over his head and that’s an issue we are going to have,” said McKeen.

John Arruda took his shot on goal at the two-minute and twenty-one-second mark in the second half to make the score 4-1. Correia once again made his presence known by scoring his second goal and the last goal of the game at the twenty-three-minute and twenty-three-second mark in the second half to bring the score to 5-1.

“Kyle Lobao played really well and Jaiden Fils-Aime as well. I mean Jaiden scored offensively but he also played excellent defense. Midfielder Anthony Forte played really well. He’s like the Energizer Bunny. He does not stop, he could play all 80 minutes and not get tired. The kid could play forever,” said McKeen. “There were a couple of beautiful corner kicks from Bruno (Correia) and then Ryan Alves went and kicked the ball six miles over the goal. Nevertheless, it was a pleasing win today.”
