LYNN — Eight residents were displaced after a two-alarm fire at a Nahant Street multi-family home early Sunday morning.
Lynn firefighters responded to 108 Nahant St. shortly before 2 a.m. and found fire showing from the back of the house on the second floor. Crews were able to quickly attack the fire, Lynn Fire Chief Stephen Archer said.
“The crews did a great job on this, holding it in check and keeping it from spreading to the rest of the house,” Archer said.
Archer said there is heavy damage to the second and third floor in the back of the house, but the 2 ½ story, four-unit residence is salvageable. Investigators believe the fire was accidental, likely electrical in nature, and appears to have started somewhere in the rear area of the second floor, he said.
There were no injuries and the residents of the home were able to self-evacuate prior to the arrival of fire crews. Of the eight displaced residents, four sought shelter with Red Cross and four others were able to make arrangements with family and friends, Archer said.
The fire chief said the most challenging part of fighting the fire was there were a lot of void spaces in the area of origin. He said crews had to open up a lot of walls and ceilings in the area to expose the fire in order to knock it down.
“Our crews did a great job holding this one in check,” Archer said. “It was a great stop.”
