SWAMPSCOTT — The Swampscott Fire Department is investigating a cellar fire that occurred at a single-family home on Stanwood Road Thursday afternoon, but it doesn’t appear to be suspicious, Fire Chief Kevin Breen said.
Shortly after 3 p.m., crews responded to a working fire at 31 Stanwood Road. A neighbor called in the blaze after seeing smoke coming from the back of the house. Nobody was home at the time and there were no injuries, Breen said.
The fire was confined to a family room in the basement and was knocked down within 15 minutes. Crews from Lynn and Marblehead provided mutual aid, Breen said.
“We’re just looking at the cause, which we feel is accidental,” Breen said. “It’s not suspicious at all.”
