LYNN — Lynn crews battled a boat fire at the Volunteer Yacht Club on the Lynnway Sunday night.
Shortly after 7:30 p.m., Lynn firefighters responded to 68 Lynnway and found a “boat fully involved in the yard,” according to a Facebook post from the city’s fire department.
Lynn Fire Chief Stephen Archer said a large, private boat that was in dry dock caught fire while it was being worked on by a family member of the owner.
Archer said the young man who had been working on the boat tried to extinguish the blaze on his own with fire extinguishers before the department was notified.
“(The) family member is not sure how the fire started,” said Archer. “The fire caused extensive damage to the living quarters and engine area of the boat.”
Crews from Engine 3 responded and were able to finish putting out the fire about an hour after it broke out. The Lynn Fire Investigation Unit is investigating, but the blaze appears to be accidental, Archer said.
There were no injuries.
