MARBLEHEAD — A two-alarm fire damaged a single-family home on Kimball Street Monday afternoon.
According to the fire department, a report came in of a car fire in the residence’s garage; all fire apparatuses were dispatched.
There was only one person — whom the fire department identified as a painter and not a resident — at the home when the fire broke out; no injuries were reported, the fire department said.
Two dogs and two cats were rescued from the home by firefighters.
Fire Capt. Eric Ridge said he noticed heavy smoke in the distance while he was in the vicinity of the Bridge Causeway, which prompted him to dispatch firefighters to Kimball Street.
Fire Chief Jason Gilliland arrived on the scene and ordered the second alarm, which brought help from the Swampscott and Salem Fire departments.
Firefighters encountered smoke from the garage, but were able to act quickly and contain the flames in the garage, preventing any further damage to the home at 2 Kimball St., according to Gilliland.
“The firefighters did a great job containing the fire to the garage, and the house only has smoke damage and no water damage,” said Gilliland.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation by Ridge and Police Det. Sean Brady.
