Fire controlled on Ocean Street

LYNN — The Fire Department responded to a fire at 206 Ocean St. after the owner and occupant of the multi-family home, Ted Karonis, smelled smoke and heard fire alarms going off.

On the second floor of the home, a room facing the street was on fire. By the time Item reporters arrived on the scene, the smoke had cleared and the windows were fully open.

“We were just sitting and the alarms went off and we looked in the rooms, then went upstairs and the room was ablaze,” Karonis said. “I really want to commend the Fire Department for their prompt response… I’m just grateful because that’s my daughter’s bedroom and she’s disabled.”

Tenants live on the third floor of the house but were not home, Karonis said. Karonis occupies the first two floors with his wife, Sheila, and daughter. Karonis said his daughter was not home at the time of the fire. Their small dog, Tinker Bell, was asleep on a couch near the front window on the first floor when the fire started.

No injuries were reported.

District Fire Chief Rob McIntosh said an investigation is underway to find the source of the second-floor fire, and there is no further information available at this time.
