Peabody (9-2) showed out on Monday with a big 10-5 win over Northeastern Conference rival Swampscott (8-2). Peabody remains undefeated in conference play at (9-0).
The Tanners were led by Brooke Lomasney (6 goals, 3 assists), Ally Bettencourt (1 goal, 4 assists), Madi Barrett (2 goals), Arianna Alvarado (1 goal), and Victoria Vaz (1 assist).
In goal, Caitlin Snow held firm, recording 12 saves for the Tanners.
“Addy Merrill and Maia Davis were strong on defense,” Peabody coach Michelle Roach said.
Leading the way for Swampscott was Coco Clopton who scored four goals. Avery Laundry (1 goal) and Fiona Keaney (1 assist) chipped in on offense.
Lilah Caplan made four saves for Swampscott.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Woburn 15
Marblehead 9
The Magicians (4-8) couldn’t get the job done at Woburn falling 15-9.
Marblehead’s attack was led by Maddie Forbes (3 goals, 1 assist), Ramona Gillett (2 goals), Kathryn Commoss (2 goals), Gretchen Smith (2 goals), and Caroline Scroope (1 assist).
Molly Bullard made five saves for Marbleheadt.
BOYS LACROSSE
St. John’s Prep 17
Malden Catholic 2
The Eagles took down the Lancers with relative ease, getting 17 goals from 13 different players.
Sophomore Sam Pruell earned his first varsity win in goal to go along with two saves.
On offense, Ben Merena, Joe Bullard, Jack Quigley, and Logan Hatch all registered a brace in the win.
St. John’s Prep is back in action on Tuesday when it travels to face Lincoln-Sudbury at 4:30 p.m.
Swampscott 4
Peabody 1
The Big Blue and the Tanners went toe-to-toe at Peabody High School in a defensive battle. In the end, four goals were enough for Swampscott to leave Peabody with a win.
Jason Rothwell (1 goal, 2 assists), John Von Barts (1 goal), Liam Keaney (1 goal), and Max Field (1 goal) were the point leaders for the Big Blue.
Swampscott head coach, Geoff Beckett, gave praise to Peabody’s goalie (Aiden Haight) for his performance.
“Peabody’s goalie was making some outstanding saves and our defense ended up playing what seemed like 20 minutes of defense in the first half,” Beckett said.
Swampscott goalie Timmy Sheehan recorded 16 saves to help Swampscott get past the Tanners.
“Timmy Sheehan also played outstandingly and the boys were able to grind it out until the end,” Beckett said.
BASEBALL
Bishop Fenwick 6
Danvers 5
It’s not over until it’s over. The Bishop Fenwick Crusaders trailed 1-5 in the bottom of the seventh inning. Most teams would think it was over, but Fenwick scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh to complete the comeback and shock the Falcons.
Josh Scali had the game-winning hit to cap off a great night.
Marblehead 7
Gloucester 1
After going 12 innings on Friday against Gloucester, the two teams met again on Monday, this time the Magicians (8-4) made sure they didn’t need extra innings.
Matt Mahan got the win on the mound for Marblehead pitching four innings.
Stefan Shepard went 2-for-4 with three runs scored and one RBI. Charlie Sachs was 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored to lead Marblehead.
“Timely hitting and solid pitching have been the key,” Magicians coach Mike Giardi said.
Marblehead is back in action on Tuesday when it hosts Masco at 4:30 p.m.

Despite home runs from Nic Lembo and Aidan Driscoll, St. John’s Prep didn’t have enough offense to take down rivals Xaverian Brothers.
The Eagles will look to get back to winning ways on Thursday when they host BC High at 4 p.m

The Rams (7-5) dropped a close game to Malden on Monday.
Christian Figueroa pitched six innings and struck out eight, but it wasn’t enough to get the win.
Rolky Brea went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a walk. Mark Walsh chipped in going 2-for-4 with one RBI and a run scored.

The Sachems offense couldn’t get it going against Shawsheen. Saugus only registered three hits compared to Shawsheen’s seven.
Danny Zeitz led the offense for Saugus going 2-for-3.

The Panthers lost a close game in the first of two games against Greater Lawrence.

Under the lights of Fraser Field, the Tigers get the job done thanks to a flawless defensive performance.
“I know everyone wants to see guys hit the ball all over the ballpark, but it seems like defense is not appreciated enough,” Tigers coach Eddie Lewis said. “It’s what won us the game tonight.”
Tech’s Chris Boyd pitched a 13 strikeout complete game giving up two hits.
Not only was Boyd dominant on the mound, but he drove in Eddie Lewis Jr. with a base hit.
“I’m extremely proud of the effort that Chris Boyd put in today. He really had a great performance tonight and for a guy that wasn’t expected to be a part of the pitching staff this season, I’m very excited to see what the future holds for the young guy,” Lewis said.
That’s three wins in a row for Lynn Tech where they hope to make it four on the bounce when they take on Minuteman at Fraser Field on Tuesday.
SOFTBALL
St. Mary’s 6
Gloucester 0
The St. Mary’s softball team made it seven wins on the bounce on Monday afternoon. The Spartans (7-2) are in a rich vein of form with their hot bats and tremendous pitching.
Brooke Moloney went 2-for-5 with a single and a double, while teammate Alyssa Soule went 1-for-1 with two walks to power the Spartans offense.
Standout freshman, Aliza Crean-Oviedo, pitched a three-hit shutout and struck out eight Fishermen.
Newburyport 4
Lynnfield 1
The Pioneers dropped to 5-7 on the year (3-5 in the Cape Ann League) after a tough loss against a strong Newburyport team.
Lynnfield only had two hits, both coming from Kaila George who recorded a double and a RBI single.
“Sophia Brown pitched well in the loss, allowing three earned runs on eight hits and a walk,” Lynnfield coach Hector Longo said.
Brown finished the game with six strikeouts.

It was a tough day at the office for the Bulldogs on the road.
Arianna Laboy went 5 2/3 innings with eight strikeouts in the loss. Kate Johansson went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Lynn English.

Lynn Classical put on a clinic against Malden scoring 17 runs in five innings.
Senior captain Rachel Dana did a little bit of everything, getting two hits, scoring two runs, and registering four RBI. Dana made an appearance on the mound pitching 2 1/3 innings with five strikeouts.
Sophomore, Aysia Olaes, went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI, while freshman teammate Liliana Parker went 1-for-1 with two runs scored and a stolen base.
The win moves the Rams to 5-5 (5-4 in the Greater Boston League).

The Magicians (10-2) have officially clinched a spot in the postseason thanks to a shutout win against Wakefield.
Catcher, Luka Bornhorst, threw out two runners and went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and RBI. Isabel Mortensen went 2-for-3 with an RBI to help lead Marblehead.

The Spartans couldn’t get the home win over Bishop Stang at Nahant Country Club.
St. Mary’s doubles team of Thomas Weber and Jason Spaulding had an exciting win in three sets. The duo dropped the first set 2-6, before rallying in the next two sets (6-4, 6-3) to pick up one of the Spartans two wins on the day.

Another match and another clean sweep for Mark Metropolis’ Eagles. St. John’s Prep remains undefeated at 7-0.
In second singles Jack Prokopis beat Andrew Garafoli (6-1, 6-1), while in first singles, John DeAngelis edged his opponent, Chris Curran, 6-3, 1-6, 6-4.
Second doubles pairing Mark McDuffie and Alex Melville cruised past their opponents 6-1, 6-1.

First singles (Dan Levin) and second singles (Shea McCarthy) are continuing to show why they are two of the top tennis players in the area.
Levin won his respective matchup 6-0, 6-3, while McCarthy won his match 6-3, 6-1.
After losing his first set 0-6, third singles Russell Kasdom showed his resilience by battling back, winning the second set (6-0) and the third set (6-4) to help Lynnfield complete the clean sweep.

Swampscott pulled off a closely contested match with the Tanners.
Swampscott’s first singles player, Anna Eccles, won her match 6-1, 6-2. Then it was Sydney Antonelli winning her respective match at second singles for Swampscott 6-4, 6-4.
Doubles duo, Ava and Alexia O’Donnell of Swampscott, earned the match-winning game beating their opponents 6-7, 6-2, 6-1.

Danvers got all three of its wins at singles.
Madison Savage of Danvers, beat Maddie Conlon 7-6 (10-8), 6-2 at first singles.
For Marblehead, first doubles, Aoife Bresnahan and Lucia Levin, took care of business 6-1, 6-3. Second doubles duo Lani Gilmore and Reese Freedman followed suit, winning 6-2, 6-3.
“Danvers program has shown significant improvement in the last few years. It’s great as it brings the quality of tennis up for everyone in the conference. Sami Dosch (third singles) had to battle for every point against Josie, falling just short,” Marblehead coach Tracy Ackerman said. “Our doubles have been keeping us in matches all season long, and today was no exception. First doubles remain undefeated in the conference, and second doubles are also finding their groove.”
VOLLEYBALL
Malden 3

The Rams (10-4) couldn’t bring home the road victory against Malden losing in three sets (26-28, 19-25, 21-25).
Long Pham had 12 digs to lead Lynn Classical, while senior outside hitter, Jonathan Ly, registered eight kills.
“This was not our best night and a night we need to learn from. Malden played very well but we also made the night very easy on them,” Rams coach Chris LeBlanc said. “In the second set, we had eight service errors. In the third, we came out to an 11-2 lead and couldn’t find a way to continue to win points.”
“We have one day of practice to hopefully get right for our Wednesday matchup against Lynn English. The effort is going to have to be more consistent from start to finish if we hope to come out on top,” he added.
