SAUGUS – The Cowsills, inspiration behind the ’70s TV show The Partridge Family, whose hits include ?Indian Lake,’ ?Hair’ and the TV theme song ?Love American Style,’ are scheduled to perform next Thursday (Aug. 8) at the Kowloon in Saugus.Also on stage that night, the 18-member Capt. Wolf Band, which bills itself as “The largest rock and blues band east of the Mississippi River.”The group originally comprised six siblings. Two are deceased today. Current members include founder Bob Cowsill, Susan Cowsill and Paul Cowsill, whose familiar harmonies are as infectious today as 40 years ago.The Captain Wolf Band, formed by F. John Nicoll (Capt. Wolf) of Nahant, mixes up-tempo pop with original rhythm and blues, including a number of songs reflecting on love, loss and life, written by Nicoll, a U.S. Merchant Marine for the past 39 years.After compiling a book of poetry, Wolf put some of his work to music and in 2007 formed the Capt. Wolf Band, which each year includes a number of Berklee College of Music students. The group also includes longtime members Nick Shepherd on drums, Rita Nadj and Kim Hill.Nicoll said the Capt. Wolf Band, which released its debut CD of original music, ?Call of the Wolf’ in 2011, is today on 20,000 juke boxes in the United States and 8,000 in Canada.
