LYNN — A Saturday afternoon two-alarm electrical fire at 295 Lynn Shore Drive left 10 apartments uninhabitable until smoke and water damage cleanup is completed, said a Fire Department spokesman.
Firefighters responded to the building at 2:40 p.m. and extinguished a fire that started in a sixth floor utility shaft before moving to the seventh floor, said District Chief Stephen Archer.
The fire caused “a fair amount of damage” to the shaft and nearby walls, said Archer, and resulted in smoke and water damage to apartments on the seventh floor and lower floors. The building has 56 apartments on eight floors. Fire crews cleared the scene by 5 p.m. and Archer said about a dozen residents secured temporary housing in other locations without the need for American Red Cross aid.
