Dan Cahill is in for a cakewalk.
The City Council President is running unopposed for the House seat vacated by Robert Fennell, who served as state representative for two decades before taking a job as the Lynn Water & Sewer Commission. The primary is scheduled for April 12.
“I have a diverse experience and knowledge on issues that affect Lynners on a daily basis,” he said.
Elected to the School Committee in 2004 and to the council in 2007, Cahill has been council president since 2014. He will continue to serve on the council until his term ends next year.
Cahill said he will take the House’s lead on opioid epidemic, and focus on the critical issue of healthcare access. He said as Partners Healthcare petitions the state to close Union Hospital, he will advocate for better access to full-service healthcare.
In addition, Cahill said he will continue his work on economic development, which includes educational and occupational opportunities for Lynn residents.
“My goal is to continue to advocate for the residents of Lynn and I just want to make sure that the city of Lynn is well represented and continues to receive the attention it deserves,” he said.
