LYNN – Dogs are the only species causing concern among Post Office letter carriers in Lynn.According to Lynn Postmaster John P. Meuse, bees are emerging as a second threat.”Our letter carriers want to provide the best service possible to customers. At the same time, they should not be subject to situations that endanger them,” he said. “That’s why we ask customers to restrain their dogs during mail delivery times and why I’m now reminding residents that bees also present dangerous situations.”Meuse said bees and wasps can pack a nasty sting, and to employees who are allergic to bee venom, the bite can be fatal. The postmaster has requested that residents watch for and remove bee nests at or near mail receptacles.Customers should try to keep bees from settling in or near mailboxes and be especially vigilant if they have flowers in the general vicinity, he said, adding that the presence of a bee or wasp swarm could indicate a nest nearby. Letter carriers would be “most appreciative” if such threats were removed, he said.”Bee stings can be very painful and, depending on the type of bee, it’s possible that more than one sting can be inflicted,” he said.
