Swampscott jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals by Azra Dzino 10:50 into the game and Marissa Gambale 18 minutes into the second half, but the Sachems weren’t ready to roll over.Lauren Garchinsky cut the deficit to one with 12 minutes remaining and Alyssa Wilkie scored with about a minute left to salvage the 2-2 tie.The Big Blue were without five starters, who have been suspended for four games for violating team and MIAA rules.”I’m proud of the kids,” Swampscott coach Fred Day said. “We were down to 15 players because of this. The kids really stepped up. We tried to use it as a rallying call.”Freshman Carly Hayes had an assist, as did Gambale. Sophomore Erin Langan (10 saves) was in net for the Big Blue, who also benefited from strong play by senior Angela Guo.Saugus coach Ted Moriello said he was proud of the way his team came back.”Swampscott was playing well,” he said.Jill Howell (7 saves) was in net for the Sachems (2-1-1, 2-0-1 NEC).Salem 1, Classical 0At Bertram Field, Classical keeper Courtney Sullivan posted 22 saves. Salem broke through on a low, hard shot from the top of the box by Christine Hinch with 1:33 remaining. Monique Gallant had the assist.Salem keeper Kristin Wyke (1 save) picked up the shutout.Salem is 2-2 and Classical is 0-4-1.Peabody 6, English 0At Peabody, Erika DiGiacomo had a hat trick and an assist while Alyssa Manoogian had a goal and three assists to pace the 3-0 Tanners.Emily Manoogian had the other two Peabody goals with Linda Vitale and Lauren Ward each having one assist.The Bulldogs (1-4) got good games from Ashley Keighley, Jenna Henry and Brittany Goulet.PMA 3, Tech 0At Manning Field, the Tigers (0-3) played well in the first half, but trailed 1-0 before the visitors pulled away in the final 40 minutes.Shanel Bird and Shaniqua Holcombe both had a pair of shots to lead the Tech offensive attack.Danvers 4, Winthrop 2At Danvers, the Falcons’ (3-0, 2-0 NEC) Kelli Getchell, Liz Burgess and Lauren Hovey scored in an 18-minute span of the first half to give the Falcons a 3-0 halftime lead. The Vikings closed to 3-1 early in the second before Jackie Gauthier scored at the 13-minute mark to put the game away.Katelyn Hartnett, Mandy Walke, Brittany Russo and Becky Landers had single assists.Marblehead 4, Gloucester 0At Gloucester, Mary Keroack had a pair of goals with Juliet Munroe and Katherine Slattery picking up the other two. Jessica Sasso, Elizabeth Miller, Julia Buttitta and Mandy James had assists and Silvie Cohen (4 saves) collected the shutout. The Magicians are 1-1.
