The Bishop Fenwick boys soccer team defeated Austin Prep, 3-0, Friday but this was definitely a case of the score not being indicative of the game.The two teams battled to a scoreless tie for the first 70 minutes with Fenwick finally breaking the ice with 10 minutes remaining. Eric Moreno of Lynn picked a good time to pick up his first varsity goal. Andrew DiNuccio crossed the ball to Moreno, who emerged from a tangle in front of the net and scored.”He was in the right place at the right time,” Fenwick coach Dave Mitchell said.Doug Garabedian made it 2-0 five minutes later and Pablo Sosa wrapped up the scoring with two minutes remaining.”Both teams worked hard,” Mitchell said. “It was a really well-played, aggressive high-school game. It was a pleasure to see.”Brian McConnell (8 saves) picked up his fourth shutout.Tech 2, Shawsheen 2At Billerica, all the scoring was done in the first half with Tech drawing first blood 10 minutes in on a goal by Richard Jones-Alas (Prince Tchoumi assist). Shawsheen tied it up two minutes later, but Tech regained the lead a couple of minutes later on a goal by Aloysius Ponce (Jefferson Avila assist). The Rams tied it up five minutes before the half and the rest was up to the goalies. Gerson Rodriguez was in net for the Tigers.”It was a great game,” Tech coach Fred Gallo said. “These were two very evenly matched teams.”Shawsheen is undefeated and Tech is 5-6-1 overall, 5-4-1 in the Commonwealth Conference.Haverhill 3, St. John’s 3At Danvers, a seesaw game ended us as St. John’s coach John Crowell said: “as it should when two evenly matched teams meet up.” The Prep trailed 1-0 early when Nick Marinakis took a feed from Matt Arquin to tie the score. In the second half the Prep took a 2-1 lead on a Sean Bishop from Owen Fox score and then took a 3-2 lead on Hunter Clark’s feed to Alex Farr. The Hillies tied the score at three with a little under ten minutes remaining in the game.”This was a fantastic game,” said Crowell. “They are a very good team and it felt like a tournament game.”The Prep was happy to see senior captain Clark back. Clark’s assist came in his first game back since tearing his ACL in the spring.Georgetown 1, Lynnfield 0At Lynnfield, the Pioneers (5-4-2) could not get anything going on offense despite having their share of opportunities to score. Conversely, Lynnfield played a solid defense, allowing few opportunities, but ironically the only goal of the game.GIRLS SOCCERLynnfield 2, Georgetown 0At Georgetown, sophomore forward Jamie Harris (12 goals, 2 assists) had the hot foot this week, scoring six goals, including both in the Pioneers’ win over Georgetown Friday. Harris put Lynnfield on the board five minutes into the second half with Catherine Durant getting the assist. She added a little insurance on a goal with eight minutes left in the game. Amy Look had the assist. Diana Triffletti came up with a huge save midway through the second half on a shot that would have tied the game.Fenwick 3, Austin Prep 0At Peabody, the Crusaders rolled to victory behind two goals by Ellen O’Leary and one by Kristin Verrette. O’Leary scored the first goal for Fenwick, which took a 1-0 lead into the half.Recording assists for Fenwick (8-2) were Melissa Garabedian with two and Maddy Bissaillon with one.
