SAUGUS – A Lincoln Avenue couple was rudely awakened Sunday morning when a car careened in the air before smashing through their bedroom wall, landing just inches over the bed where they slept. The woman in bed, identified as Karen Fabrizio, was buried underneath the rubble and the hood of the car, which had flipped upside down before coming to rest at a 45-degree angle in her bedroom.Fabrizio was listed in stable condition at Mass. General Hospital Sunday night. She was in bed with her husband, Anthony Fabrizio, when the accident happened at approximately 2:50 a.m. The couple lives at 142 Lincoln Ave., a one-story building with two apartments. The driver and the vehicle’s only occupant, Maria Bouras, 30, who lives at 24 Forest St., Lynn, with her parents James and Katina Bouras, was treated and released from Mass. General.Katina Bouras said her daughter was sleeping when the Item called the home for comment around 8 p.m. Sunday.”She’s sleeping now,” she said. “She’s in a lot of pain.”As of press time, Bouras had not been charged in connection with the accident, but police said Sunday that criminal charges are pending. Police would not say if speed or alcohol were a factor.Firefighters reported Anthony Fabrizio “disentangled” himself from the bedroom after the car came through his wall. The family dog was found trapped under the bed, unharmed, a short time later.Bouras was driving her 2003 Lexus northbound on Lincoln Avenue when she hit two vehicles that were parked on the road between Guild Road and Bates Street before hitting a curb and flying into the air, according to police and witnesses. The Fabrizio’s home is located on the corner of Bates Street.Neighbor Brian Nilsson, 42, and his son Cameron, 18, both said they awoke to a loud “boom” when the crash happened.”How could I miss it!?” said Cameron.”I’ve seen a few accidents on this street? But nothing like this,” Brian said. “What a way to wake up.”Brian’s 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee, which was parked in front of his home, was totaled in the accident.Brian said he rushed to the crash scene before firefighters arrived. He was concerned because an injured Bouras was trying to free herself from the vehicle.”I pulled the windshield off and said ?listen, don’t move,” he said.Nillson said Bouras’ Lexus hit the side-view mirror of another car, which was parked just beyond Guild Road, before hitting his Cherokee, which had its back driver’s-side tire snapped off. The car also ripped out a bus stop sign.”If you see the damage underneath the Jeep? I don’t know how her car kept going,” he said. “It was probably going at a pretty good clip.”Nillson’s wife, Nancy, was awake when the crash happened and began screaming, he said.”Nancy’s yelling, ?Accident! Accident! Call 911!” he said. “It was right on their bed. You can’t imagine.”Though his vehicle was totaled, Nillson said his main concern is the wellbeing for the injured women.”The Jeep, I can replace. It’s the people I worry about,” he said.
