SWAMPSCOTT – The Friends of the Library gala was so successful last year it is now an annual event.Friends of the Library President Carole Shutzer said the Annual Book Sale Preview Gala would be held on Friday, Oct. 19 from 7-9 p.m. at the library.Shutzer said the book sale preview and wine-tasting gala last year raised necessary funds for library programs and was a lot of fun.?This year it’s a little different,” she said.?We’re having hot apple cider, coffee, liqueurs and homemade desserts. It’s a very casual, homey sort of event. It gives people a chance to come together in a nice atmosphere, chat with friends and neighbors and enjoy a fun evening.”Shutzer said attendees would have first crack at books and videos in the sale as well.?The book sale doesn’t open to the general public until the following day,” she said. “This is a wonderful opportunity to pick out books and videos before they are gone.”Shutzer said each patron at the gala would be able to preview books and purchase up to 10 items before the sale opens to the general public the following day.Shutzer said the annual book sale is one of the largest fundraisers of the year for the library and the proceeds go to purchase museum passes, fund children’s programs and other activities throughout the year.Tickets, which are available at the library, are $5 for Friends of the Library members and $7.50 for non-members.The event will include desserts, hot cider, liqueurs and coffee. For additional information or to purchase tickets call 781-596-8867.The Friends of the Swampscott Public Library annual book sale will open to the public on Saturday, Oct. 20 and run though Oct. 27 during regular library hours.
