Swampscott spoiled Peabody’s perfect season Thursday with a 5-3 win at Peabody. The Tanners got a two-goal performance by freshman Emily Manoogian. Manoogian had scored 6:20 into the game to put the Tanners up 1-0, only to have Swampscott senior captain Kellie McHugh tie the game at the seven-minute mark. Manoogian struck again 19 minutes in and the Tanners held a 2-1 lead. Senior Janelle Mazzaferro tied things up with seven minutes remaining before halftime. The second half belonged to the Big Blue. Azra Dzino scored 25 minutes in and Jen Cleary netted the game-winner five minutes later. Erin Langan made it 5-2 on a penalty shot with four minutes left, but Alyssa Manoogian got one back on a free kick a minute later for the 5-3 final.”This was Peabody’s first loss,” Swampscott coach Fred Day said. “They’re a power. We’ve scored five goals before, but not against a team of this caliber.”The Tanners (9-1) experienced some upheaval this week when coach Lori Escolas, who was in her ninth year, resigned for personal reasons. Junior varsity coach Dennis Desroches has taken her place for the remainder of the season.Peabody High athletic director Phil Sheridan said Escolas had been out sick last week and when she returned, she resigned (on Tuesday).”We wish her well,” Sheridan said. “We’re going to move forward and hopefully have a successful year.”Swampscott, which enjoyed strong defense from Sarah Burnham, Allie Colson and Monique Bleau, as well as keeper Tara Nimkar (15 saves), is 6-2-3, 6-2-2 Northeastern Conference.Marblehead 3, Salem 1At Bertram Field, Salem took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Karly Henderson, but Marblehead’s Jessica Sasso and Liz Miller scored before halftime to give the Magicians (4-4-2) the lead for good. Sarah Forvass made it 3-1 with 13 minutes remaining.Silvie Cohen (10 saves) was in net for Marblehead and Kristin Wyke (8 saves) for Salem (5-6).Fenwick 7, Marian 1At Framingham, Melissa Garabedian scored twice for the Crusaders (9-2), who qualified for the state tournament. Bianca Gallo, Maddy Bissaillon, Vanessa Poirier, Steph Halks and Jen Comeau accounted for the other five goals.Beverly 2, Saugus 0At Beverly, the Panthers scored both their goals in the second half. Saugus (5-4-2, 5-3-2 NEC) is home Friday against Saugus.”Beverly played a very smart, aggressive game,” Saugus coach Ted Moriello said. “They wanted it more than we did.”
