The Classical High golf team wrapped up its season on a high note with a 41 1/2-30 1/2 win over English Thursday at Gannon Golf Course.The Rams (3-9) won at the first four spots: Vinny Amenta defeated Dave Stevens, 6-3; Jeff Gaudet defeated Jim Elwell, 7-2; Sean Winchell topped James O’Blenes, 5-4, and Bobby Adams defeated Tim Shirley, 6-3. Classical’s Chris Merrill tied Scott Flaherty at No. 5 and English’s Sean Crowley defeated Jonny Rodriguez, 5 1/2-3 1/2 at six. The Rams’ Justin Merrill sliped past Justin Ford, 5-4, at No. 7 and Classical’s Jetta Garrity and Steven Small tied at No. 8.Peabody 54 1/2, Revere 17 1/2At The Meadows, the Tanners wrapped up the Northeastern Conference North title with a 9-1-1 record. Peabody, playing its first season in the NEC, has one match remaining against Gloucester. The Tanners have now won league titles in 10 of the last 11 years, with the other nine coming in the Greater Boston League.In one through eight, respectively, Josh Page shot a 38 and defeated Christina Cavagnaro, 7-2; Taylor Shalin (40) won 6-3 over Matt Robichaud; Kevin Franey (40) won 6-3 over Jonathan Chiarelli; Carl Serra (42) won 5-4 over Kerri Roach; Jim Noftle (40) won 7-2 over Ed Maglio; Tom Rogers (40) won 8-1 over Aaron Siegal; Tom Dumas (42) won 8-1 over Nick Adriani and Gary Idice won 7 1/2-1 1/2 over Justin Parechanian.St. Mary’s 227, MC 242At Mt. Hood, the Spartans (12-3) got strong performances from Jon Baldwin, who shot a 36; Jesse Powers, who shot a 36; Matt O’Hare, who shot a 38; Tommy McPherson, who shot a 38; Ryan Fitzsimons, who shot a 39; and Kevin McCarthy, who shot a 40. St. Mary’s coach Mark Lee said that the MC coach told him that 227 was the lowest score shot at Mt. Hood this year.Swampscott 36 1/2, Marblehead 35 1/2At Tedesco Country Club, the Big Blue survived a tough Marblehead team to finish at 9-2 in the Northeastern Conference and 11-2 overall. Swampscott had already won the NEC South title.The match came down to the wire, with Swampscott’s Matt Nutter winning at 5 1/2-3 1/2 at seven and Charlie Fisher halving his match at eight to pull out the win. Fisher, a senior, won his last three holes to come away with the tie.This is the second year in a row Swampscott has captured the Tedesco Cup, which is awarded to the winner of the Swampscott-Marblehead match. The Big Blue have now won the cup six of the last 10 years.In the other matches, Marblehead’s Shawn Likins defeated Anthony Dilisio at No. 1, 5-4; Kevin Nesbitt, Marblehead, defeated Alex Patkin, 5 1/2-3 1/2, at two and Swampscott’s Spencer Graham defeated Ben Cohen, 5 1/2-3 1/2, at three.Marblehead’s Jordan Wright defeated Josh Ruskin, 5-4, at four; Swampscott’s Pat DeChillo defeated Eric Stein, 5-4, at five and Matt Kane and Kyle Benowitz tied at six.Both teams will send players to the Northeastern Conference Open at Tedesco Country Club Tuesday. The Division 3 state qualifier is slated for Monday, Oct. 22, at Far Corner.
