School Roundup: English soccer squads swept by Danvers

It was a tough day for the English High boys and girls soccer teams, with both losing to Danvers. The boys lost 5-2 at Manning Field and the girls lost 7-0 at Danvers.In the boys game, the score was tied 1-1 at the half, but Danvers came out on fire after the break and put the game away. Mubarak Nyang scored both English goals and Gabe Smith had an assist. Eric Hamlin was in net for English (2-8-2) and Eddie Roman was solid in the midfield.Danvers got a big lift from sophomore Ben Pasquariello, who scored three goals and assisted on two others. Sophomore Chris Ciampa and senior captain Phil Marchwinski accounted for the other two goals as the Falcons improved to 6-5-1.GIRLS SOCCERDanvers 7, English 0At Danvers, Megan Forti, Brittany Goulet and Shawna Henry played well in the loss. English is 2-8-3 and Danvers is 11-1.FIELD HOCKEYFenwick 1, Arlington 1At Fenwick, Kara Charochak scored 25 minutes into the first half to tie the game up for the Crusaders (6-4-1). Abby Poeske played a strong game on defense and Courtney Nicolo made one save in net.VOLLEYBALLSt. Mary’s 3, Marian 0At Framingham, the Spartans (13-0, 10-0 Catholic Central League) had strong serving and defensive play from Angela Masucci, Nicole Hanlon and Anna Jackson.
