School Roundup: Fenwick gets revenge on Spellman

The Bishop Fenwick girls soccer team avenged a 1-0 loss to Spellman earlier in the season with a 3-2 win Friday at home.The Crusaders (10-2) had goals from Maddy Bissaillon, Ellen O’Leary and Melissa Garabedian. Jill Dean (8 saves) held down the fort in net.Lynnfield is at Peabody today at 5 p.m.Salem 3, Saugus 3At Saugus, it was a tale of two halves. In the first 40 minutes neither team could find the net and in the second, they couldn’t miss. Salem’s Natasha Nieves gave the Witches a 1-0 lead three minutes into the second half. Saugus’ Alyssa Wilkie tied it up, only to see Salem’s Ashley Maccario put the Witches up 2-1. Wilkie scored again to tie the game, but Salem (5-6-1) took it back on a Jessica Ngo goal with nine minutes remaining.The Sachems (5-4-3) salvaged the tie when Belinda Cresta-Devine scored on a penalty kick with four minutes left in the game.”It was a well-played match by both teams,” Saugus coach Ted Moriello said. “It was nice to see the girls hang in there, keep plugging away at it until they got a result out of the match instead of a goose egg.”Shawsheen 8, Tech 0At McManus Field, the Tigers (0-10) had a tough outing, but the Tigers did get strong play at sweeper from Rosario Deleon. Tech is at Northeast Monday.Peabody 3, Winthrop 1At Winthrop, the wind was a challenge for both teams and at the half, the game was scoreless. Peabody’s Alyssa Manoogian broke the ice in the second half with Sylvi Lafrazi and Emily Manoogian (goal, assist) adding the other two goals. Amy Perkins (11 saves) had a busy night in net and Angie Ellison had a strong game on defense.”Our first-half goal was to contain them,” Peabody coach Dennis Desroches said. “They had the wind. The second half, it was to apply pressure and use the wind. We capitalized on our opportunities.”Peabody is 10-1.FIELD HOCKEYSaugus 3, Revere 0At Revere, senior captain Haley Erickson had a goal and an assist for the Sachems, who improve to 8-3-4 overall, 7-2-4 in the Northeastern Conference. Gia Troisi and Cassie LaBella also had goals while Sophia DiPesa kept Revere at bay in net.Marblehead 1, Beverly 1At Beverly, Marblehead’s Taylor Callahan scored 11 minutes into the game to tie the score. Libby Levine (6 saves) was in net as the Magicians improved to 8-2-2. Jen Perry had an assist and Tory Snow played well.VOLLEYBALLLynnfield 3, Peabody 0At Lynnfield, the Pioneers lost to Peabody the first time around, but round 2 was a different story. Lynnfield won 25-15, 25-23 and 25-16. Outside hitters Lindsey Buchanan and Jenna Guerriero played well for Lynnfield (11-3), as did setters Ali Costa and Lori Gattineri.”This might be one of the best executed games we’ve had,” Lynnfield coach Bob Cleary said.
