There’s nothing like a little high drama to get your blood running. The St. Mary’s boys soccer team tied Marian, 1-1, on a penalty kick with no time left on the clock Wednesday at Manning Field.Marian had broken the scoreless tie with a goal early in the second half, and that’s how things stood until the end, when the Spartans’ Chris Kefalas was tripped in the box and the official called a penalty kick.St. Mary’s coach Al Jackson, his team trailing 1-0, decided to turn up the heat offensively down the stretch. He moved keeper Andrew LaMacchia up front and the added pressure paid off when Marian was called on the trip. LaMacchia scored on the penalty kick, but it was up to Rob Goggan, who replaced him in net, to keep Marian off the board. He did a great job, Jackson said, citing a couple of huge stops down the stretch.”The game was very physical,” Jackson said, adding his team didn’t play well until midway through the second half when things started to pick up.Marian was assessed three yellow cards; St. Mary’s had two.Shawn Borders, Mike Louvaris and Jeremy Tranfaglia all played well for St. Mary’s (7-3-5) in the win.Masco 4, Lynnfield 1At Masco, Mike Kennedy scored for Lynnfield (7-5-2), but it wasn’t enough to slow down Masco, which netted three goals in a 10-minute span to put the game away.GIRLS SOCCERSt. Mary’s 6, Marian 0At Framingham, Amanda Webster scored two goals and assisted on one to ignite an offensive explosion that was much needed given the fact the Spartans (8-3-1, 4-3 1 Catholic Central League) had tied their last three games. Briana Barker had a goal and an assist with Sarah Felton, Louise Sheehan and Stephanie Mowry accounting for the other four goals. Megan Brickley (6 saves) picked up the win.St. Mary’s only needs one point to qualify for the state tournament and Webster is three goals shy of tying Gabe Pesce, who graduated last year, as the girls soccer all-time leading goal scorer. Webster has 70 career goals. Pesce finished with 73.Masco 7, Lynnfield 1At Lynnfield, the Pioneers (5-7-3, 5-3-2 Cape Ann League) hit a bump in what they hope is the road to the state tournament.”The team that played on Monday against Newburyport did now show up to play today,” Lynnfield coach Mark Vermont said.Abby Tobin scored for Lynnfield, which still needs five points out of its final three games to qualify for the states.
