ARLINGTON – In conditions befitting the movie Waterworld, the Bishop Fenwick football team lost to Arlington Catholic, 42-26, Friday at Arlington Memorial Stadium.Fenwick coach David Woods was as despondent as the weather.”I really don’t have any kind of comment at all,” Woods said after the game.And yet it seemed that Fenwick had a good chance for much of the game. Arlington Catholic pulled away late in the contest. With 5:29 remaining in the third quarter, the Crusaders only trailed 22-20. And with 1:39 left in the third quarter, the Arlington Catholic lead was only 29-26.A promising second half began for the Crusaders after they entered it trailing 22-7. Bobby Tarr got the Fenwick fans excited with a 65-yard touchdown run just 30 seconds into the quarter. The two-point conversion attempt failed and Fenwick trailed 22-13.As the quarter passed the halfway mark, it was quarterback John Bakers turn to delight the Peabody contingent. Baker scored on a 1-yard run to pull his team to within 22-19. Brendan Barrett kicked the extra point for a 22-20 margin with 5:29 left in the third quarter.Arlington Catholic would derail the Fenwick momentum when Justin Cerra scored on a 10-yard touchdown run with 1:46 remaining in the quarter. Travis Stanley kicked the extra point and the Cougars had a 29-20 lead.Tarr, however, would booster the Fenwick hopes yet again when he scored his second touchdown of the game. This one came on a 35-yard run and it put him over 200 yards rushing for the game. With 1:39 left in the third, Fenwick only trailed 29-26.But Fenwick couldn’t pull it out. Arlington Catholic responded with two late scores. The first came when quarterback Corey Spencer found Joe Granato for an 18-yard touchdown pass with 38.9 seconds left in the third. AC closed out the scoring on Derek Harmon’s third touchdown of the evening, a 13-yard run in the fourth.The teams began the game trading touchdowns in the first quarter with Harmon and Baker both scoring on touchdown runs. In the second quarter Arlington Catholic added two touchdown runs, a five-yarder from Spencer and a nine-yarder from Harmon.”Getting out on top was key,” Arlington Catholic coach Serge Clivio said. “They can score at any given time just by giving him (Tarr) the ball.”
