NAHANT – For the tenth consecutive year, the Bass Point Boat Club, in conjunction with several local businesses and the Nahant Knights of Columbus, will be delivering free Thanksgiving dinners to any Nahant resident who requests one.Dan Fiore, who is a member of the Knights of Columbus and has helped coordinate the effort each year, said it takes more than 40 volunteers to prepare, package and deliver the dinner.?We have volunteers from all over town,’ he said. “Last year 102 dinners were prepared and delivered to 65 residents in town.”Fiore said the effort gets under way when a dozen turkeys are cooked by volunteers. The turkeys are then brought to the Knights of Columbus where other volunteers have been doing prep work. Area businesses also lend a hand. Fiore said containers donated by Captains Seaside and the Bayside Hall, the mashed potatoes are courtesy of Tides, the squash is from Continental and the gravy is from Periwinkles Food Shoppe.?As soon as the turkeys arrive, an assembly line is formed and the carving begins,” he said. “The meals are assembled and the containers are then divvied up amongst the many volunteers who, accompanied by the Boy Scouts, deliver the hot meals as fast as possible.”Fiore pointed out the dinners would be delivered earlier in the season this year due to scheduling conflicts.?The dinners will be delivered on Saturday, Nov. 10 between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.,” he said. “We want to get the word out now so no one misses out.”Any Nahant resident who would like to have a free Thanksgiving dinner delivered to their home on Saturday, Nov. 10, should call 781-581-0935 or 781-581-6177 and leave their name, address, phone number and the number of meals requested.
