SWAMPSCOTT – Marian Court College at 35 Little’s Point Road recently announced the appointment of two new board members.Swampscott resident Lauren Schadt Baker and Ronald T. Plotka, D.D.S., of Marblehead have been appointed to the Board of Trustees.Swampscott Attorney Paul Levenson, chairman of the 15-member Board of Trustees, said Plotka and Baker would both be an asset to the board.?They are two extraordinary people,” Levenson said. “Dr. Plotka is arranging for a new institute at Marian Court for training people to assist in the business side of dental practice. Lauren comes from an interesting professional and educational background. I expect they will add a lot of strength to the board.”Baker brings an advertising background to the board. After receiving her MBA from Kellogg Graduate School of Management in 1986, Baker worked in advertising for 13 years. For the past eight years, she has dedicated her time to raising three children and community involvement. Baker is on the boards of Swampscott Youth Soccer and the Massachusetts Association for Mental Health, and is actively involved with the Red Cross of Massachusetts Bay as a founding member of the Tiffany Leadership Society.Plotka, who has been in private practice for more than 30 years, has received accolades from the dental, academic, and philanthropic communities. After earning his D.D.S. from St. Louis University, Plotka went on to serve as a captain in the U.S. Air Force Dental Corps, a teacher at Tufts University School of Dentistry, a consultant to the New England Patriots, and president of the American Society for Preventative Dentistry of Massachusetts. A member of numerous national and regional professional and civic associations, Plotka has been actively involved with charitable efforts; he founded “Breaking the Chain,” an antiviolence program promoting mediation in public schools, and the “Smiles for Life” tooth whitening program which raised over $25 million for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and Garth Brooks charities. In addition to his appointment on the board at Marian Court College, Plotka serves as a board member of the Visiting Nurses Association and Atlanticare Hospitals in Lynn and is on the medical staff at North Shore Medical Center. He is in private practice at the North Shore Center for Cosmetic Dentistry, Inc. in Swampscott.Plotka said he is looking forward to serving on the Board of Trustees.?I think it’s a wonderful school,” he said. “It’s a little gem on the ocean. I think the people on the Board now will help the college rise to new heights.”
