Girls Soccer Roundup: Swampscott continues solid play vs. Saugus

Swampscott extended its unbeaten streak to nine games with Saugus its latest victim. The Big Blue won 3-0 Monday at home.Swampscott’s (9-2-4, 9-2-2 Northeastern Conference) Skylar Sabbag scored 20 minutes into the game (Zoemma Warshafsky assist). Three minutes later, junior Marissa Gambale scored her 10th of the season. Janelle Mazzaferro finished off the scoring 34 minutes into the second half. Tara Nimkar (6 saves) picked up the shutout.Saugus (7-5-4, 7-4-5 NEC) had solid play from Kaylee Evans, Meagan Lynch and Sarah Krasowski, as well as goalie Jill Howell.St. Mary’s 3, Waltham 1At Manning Field, Amanda Webster scored two goals to tie former teammate Gabe Pesce for the girls career scoring record (72 goals). Maria Piperidis had the other goals and Courtney Winters had an assist. Megan Brickley had another strong game in net with help from defenders Cara Conway, Brittney Naumann and Lauren Pohle.The Spartans are 9-3-4, 4-3-2.Peabody 5, English 0At Manning Bowl, the score was 1-0 until the final seconds of the first half. Erika DiGiacomo had two goals and an assist and Emily Manoogian had two goals and two assists. Alyssa Manoogian had a goal and an assist. Kristin Wyke posted her fourth shutout.Marblehead 2, Gloucester 0At Marblehead, Sarah Forward put the Magicians on top 1-0 with an unassisted goal in the first half and Juliet Munroe added some insurance in the second with Laura Kanarski getting the assist. Marblehead (5-6-3) needs five points in its final four games to make the tournament.Fenwick 6, Lowell 0At Peabody, Melissa Garabedian netted two goals for the Crusaders (11-3) with Ellen O’Leary, Meghan Dolan, Danielle DiNuccio and Bianca Gallo contributing one each. Jill Dean and Rebecca Graves combined for the shutout.Fenwick is still in the hunt for the Catholic Central League title with Arlington Catholic the main stumbling block. The teams play Monday.
