School Roundup: Tech boys soccer continues to roll

The Tech boys soccer team was firing on all cylinders Tuesday in its regular season finale against Pope John in Everett.Tech won, 8-2, with Elmer Vincente, Yerlin Vuevara and Prince Tchoumi each scoring two goals, Tchoumi and Vincente also had three assists and Vuevara, one. Fabrizio Lopez (goal, assist) and Christian Paxtor (goal) accounted for the rest of the scoring with Richard Jones-Alas, who is normally a midfielder, playing in net because the regular keeper was sick.Tech coach Fred Gallo is now waiting to see if his team will be playing in the Vocational Tournament and if so, who the Tigers (9-6-1, 8-4-1) will face. Tech got off to a 1-5 start, but turned things around as the season progressed.”This team really came together. It just took a while,” Gallo said.Gallo said there are a couple of games from early in the season he’d like to take back (Tech had five or six one-goal losses), but said the kids are playing well now.Once that developed, change whole makeup..GIRLS SOCCERLynnfield 2, Ham.-Wen. 2At Lynnfield, Jamie Harris scored 28 minutes into the game and Abby Tobin found the net at the 46th minute for the Pioneers, who have one game remaining (North Reading on Thursday) and need to win to qualify for the tournament. Diana Triffletti came up big in net with 22 saves. Lynnfield is 5-7-5, 5-3-4 in the Cape Ann League Small.FIELD HOCKEYFenwick 7, Everett 0At Peabody, Liz Sears had no problem finding the back of the net, scoring four goals to help the Crusaders improve to 8-6-2. The win qualifies Fenwick for the state tournament.Last year, the Crusaders lost to Manchester in the quarterfinals.Sears had some help on offense, with Melissa Feld netting two goals and Nicole Roy a goal and three assists. Casey Landry was in net for the shutout. Fenwick has two games remaining.Saugus 0, Marblehead 0At Saugus, this one was a defensive battle with Saugus goalie Sophia DiPesa and Marblehead goalie Jen Peary both up for the challenge. Marblehead is 9-2-4 with a game remaining against Swampscott. The Magicians are still alive in the hunt for the Northeastern Conference title.Saugus finished its regular season at 9-4-5, 8-3-5 in the NEC. Kaitlin Hagstrom, Gia Troisi and Cassie LaBella all played well for the Sachems.Swampscott 2, Danvers 1At Swampscott, Kristen Santanello and Mallorie McGrath took care of the scoring for the Big Blue with both goals coming in the first half.Kelly McGillis (4 saves) was in net with Erin McLaughlin and Monica Mosho supplying some defensive help.Swampscott is 4-6-4.Lynnfield 5, Georgetown 1At Georgetown, Angela Arakelian had two goals for the Pioneers (13-4) with Mallory Flynn, Merian Gehret and Molly Serino accounted for the others.Mary Kreiger had two assists and goalie Melissa Williams stopped eight shots in the win. All five goals were scored in the first half, with two coming off corners.BOYS CROSS COUNTRYFenwick 15, AB Williams 48At Peabody, the Crusaders finished their regular season at 6-1 with their only loss coming against Cardinal Spellman. Fenwick dominated against Archbishop Williams, taking the first five places and eight of the top 10 spots.Fenwick’s top five finishers were Billy Harrington (17:59); John Surabian (18:11); Colton Buckley (18:36); Jon Tatone (19:49) and Andre Deschenes (19:52).GIRLS CROSS COUNTRYFenwick 16, AB Williams 46At Peabody, the Crusaders wrapped up their season with a 6-1 record.Their loss came against Marian. Fenwick took the top four positions against Archbishop Williams with Ali Trainor (22:09); Ashley Banks (22:28); Joanna DeLorenzo (24:16) and Cassie Schubert (25:07).The course was three miles.VOLLEYBALLLynnfield 3, Watertown 0At Lynnfield, the Pioneers (13-4) had this one in hand early on, winning the first two games by the same score, 25-9, and the final game 25-15.Diandra DiBiase, Katie Morrissey and Virginia Tran all played well for Lynnfield.Peabody 3. Lexington 2At Peabody, the Tanners erased a 2-1 deficit by winning the last two games by scores of 25
