SALEM – A Lynn man accused of stealing $20 from a police officer last month will have to come up with $10,000 cash in order to get out of the Middleton Jail pending trial.David Lane, 43, of 23 Acorn St., #1, pleaded not guilty to armed robbery Tuesday afternoon in Salem Superior Court before Judge David A. Lowy.The charge stems from an incident on the afternoon of Sept. 1 on Washington Street in Lynn when Lane allegedly used a rock to rob $20 from police officer as he was walking down the street.A conviction on the charge could net Lane up to life in state prison.His next scheduled court date is Dec. 3 for a pretrial conference.Assistant District Attorney A.J. Camelio is prosecuting the case for the commonwealth.Court appointed attorney Amanda Barker is representing Lane since he has been declared indigent, meaning he has no money to hire his own attorney. The state will pay all costs, but he has to pay $150 towards that representation.
