Danvers High clinched at least a share of the Northeastern Conference South title Wednesday with a 4-0 win over Saugus at Anna Parker. The Falcons (14-3, 13-2 NEC) can take the crown outright with a win over Gloucester in its final game. Swampscott is still in the hunt mathematically, but the Big Blue would have to win their next two games and Danvers, which has won at least a share of the title for the last five years, would have to lose to Gloucester for Swampscott to tie.”We had 15 seniors this year who have been through a lot of tough games,” Danvers coach Jim Hinchion said. “We felt we had the experience. We knew there would be a lot of tough teams out there. We also had young girls who really played a big part.”Casey King scored the first Danvers goal with the assist going to Ashley Sullivan. Sullivan netted the next two goals with Jackie Gauthier accounting for the final tally. Brittany Russo and Katelyn Hartnett each had an assist. Caraline Moholland made seven saves.”They’re very good, very well-coached, and they have a lot of highly skilled girls,” Saugus coach Ted Moriello said. “They moved the ball around extremely well. I expect them to go quite a ways in the state tournament.”Jill Howell played well in net for the Sachems. Christina Vernaci (outside midfield) and Belinda Cresta-Devine (center midfield) also helped the cause. Saugus is 7-6-4, 7-5-3.Beverly 4, English 0At Keaney Park, the Panthers scored two first-half goals, one on a penalty kick. Beverly qualified for the tournament.Salem 4, Revere 1At Bertram Field, Jamie Hanson scored two goals, Lauren Schaejbe notched her first varsity goal and Natasha Nieves finished off the scoring. Tara Nimkar (7 saves) had the shutout.Peabody 6, Classical 0At Peabody, Courtney Sullivan (18 saves) had another strong game in net despite the score. It was senior night in Peabody and the Tanners not only recognized their own seniors, but they also presented carnations to the graduating Classical players.”They showed they’re a classy team and I wish them well,” Classical coach Marcy Durgin said “I think they’ll go deep in the tournament.”Emily Manoogian and Stephanie Muscato had two goals each for the Tanners with Alyssa Manoogian (goal, 2 assists) and Lauren Ward accounting for the rest of the offense. Peabody is 15-1, 14-1 NEC North. Classical is 1-13-2.Marblehead 2, Winthrop 2At Marblehead, the Magicians (5-6-4) could only muster one point, but they have three games remaining to get the final four points to qualify for the state tournament.
