The Marblehead High field hockey team saw its tournament run come to an end with a 2-0 loss to Manchester-Essex Thursday in the Division 2 North semifinals at North Andover. The game was scoreless through the first half, with Manchester-Essex finally breaking the deadlock with a goal five minutes into the second half. Just minutes later, Marblehead’s Michele Manley had to be carried off the field after being hit in the knee area with the ball. Manley was taken to a hospital.Ten minutes later, the Magicians lost another one of their top players when Maggie McMullen took a stick to the head. She had to seek medical attention for a possible concussion. Earlier in the game, Tori Snow had a goal called back when the official ruled it came off a dangerous hit.Despite the loss, the Magicians had plenty of reasons to be proud. Goalie Libby Levine stopped 23 shots and the defense was a rock through the first half. Marblehead finished its season 11-3-5.VOLLEYBALLAndover 3, Peabody 0In the Division 1 North semifinals at Andover, the Tanners haven’t had much success against Andover in recent years, losing to the Golden Warriors in the North sectionals the last two years. Peabody put up a fight in the first two games before losing 25-19 and 25-18. The last game was a bit more lopsided, with Peabody losing 25-11.”They’re a very strong team,” Peabody coach Lisa Keene said. “They’ll hit from all over the court. Plus, we made a few mental errors. It only took one or two for it to happen. Both teams played well in the first two games, but we kind of let ourselves go after the second.”Rachel Negri had a strong game with six kills, five tips and two blocks. Janelle Rodriguez had six blocks and Liz Walsh had four kills and two tips. Kristyn Kelley was solid on defense. Peabody finished the season with a 17-5 record.
