LYNN – The famous writer Gertrude Stein urged her acolytes to buy art instead of fancy clothes and other consumer goods. For those adhering to that philosophy, LynnArts is holding its annual holiday show and sale from Dec. 1 through Jan. 4 at the 25 Exchange St. galleries and arts center. For artists seeking to enter the show, all two- and three-dimensional media is accepted. However, jewelry submissions must have their own display cases, and wall-mounted work must be wired for hanging.Only original work will be accepted and be displayed on walls. No prints. The gallery will not accept work that has been previously displayed and LynnArts reserves the right to refuse any work.Artists should note the maximum size for wall-hung pieces is 23-by-36 inches. Up to four pieces may be wall hung or sculptures, and up to eight may be matted and shrink-wrapped pieces for the bins, for table sculptures that can fit into a 2-by-2 foot space. Crafters, those making bags, scarves, cards and similar items, can submit 15 pieces. The gallery will contact artists whose work sells out during the show, according to LynnArts Director Susan Halter. The maximum sale price must not exceed $300 per piece. Seventy-five percent of the price goes to the artist and 25 percent to LynnArts.”It’s our experience that affordable work sells much better, so please consider submitting works under $100,” Halter said. All work submitted for the show and sale must be delivered on Nov. 27, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., or Nov. 28, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Unsold work must be picked up on Jan. 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., or on Jan 8. from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.Any special considerations must be arranged in advance.Entries are invited from artists 17 and older.
