MARBLEHEAD – Monday night is an important time for people concerned about Marblehead’s open space and recreation opportunities. The town’s Open Space Committee will hold a public meeting at 7 p.m. in the downstairs meeting room of the Abbot Public Library for people who want to discuss the properties and projects they think are important to the town, and ways to protect or enhance them. That feedback will be used to update the town’s Open Space and Recreation Plan. The state requires communities to maintain that plan and update it every five years and hold a public hearing as part of the process.Town Planner Rebecca Curran said the report gives residents the chance to come together and identify open space and recreation issues for the immediate future.”We are aiming to increase awareness about the many different types of open space and recreation areas found throughout the town,” she said.Selectman William Woodfin will facilitate the meeting.Appointed by the selectmen, the Open Space Committee includes Bradford “Nick” Freeman, chairman, Woodfin, who represents the selectmen, Walter Haug, Conservation Commission, Richard Harrison, Marblehead Conservancy, Diane St. Laurent, community representative and Curran, who serves ex-officio.Committee members also identify and investigate parcels of open space to be submitted to Marblehead Town Meeting for acquisition by the town for open space and/or preservation, and they promote public discussion about open space as well.Further information is available from Curran at 781-631-0000.
