Peabody woman killed in Rt. 1 crash

PEABODY – A West Peabody woman was killed in a head-on accident Friday on Route 1 in Danvers, according to State Police.Joyce E. Oliver, 73, of Surrey Lane was pronounced dead shortly after the 9 a.m. accident.The crash occurred when a 1999 Volvo S70 sedan was driving southbound and crossed into the northbound traffic, colliding head-on with Oliver’s 2000 Mercury Sable, police said.Buck C. Bishop, 18, of Danvers, was driving the Volvo and suffered minor injuries, according to police.After the initial crash, a third vehicle driving behind Oliver collided with both her Mercury and the Volvo.The third vehicle, a 1997 Honda Civic, was operated by Matthew B. Schlosser, 25, of Cambridge. Schlosser and his passenger, Heather K. Rahhal, 31, of Dorchester only suffered minor injuries, police said.Oliver was transported by ambulance to Beverly Hospital where she was pronounced dead a short time later.A woman who answered the phone at Oliver’s home Friday night was too upset to comment.Both sides of Route 1 were closed for approximately 90 minutes after the accident. Northbound traffic was diverted at the Ferncroft Rotary and southbound traffic was detoured off at Route 97, police said.
