PEABODY-An on-duty Peabody police officer got into a serious two-car accident with his cruiser on Lowell Street shortly before 10:30 a.m. Sunday.The accident occurred at the intersection of Lowell and Endicott streets, according to Peabody Fire Lt. Dale Kimball.Kimball said the Jaws of Life was used to free the police officer from the driver-side door.”The officer was banged up pretty good,” Kimball said.The police department’s press log identified the officer as Patrolman Robert E. Mahoney and the other driver as Tracy Collins of 79 Fairview Ave., Peabody.Mahoney was treated and released from Beverly Hospital. Collins’ medical condition was unclear as of press time.Police refused to comment on the accident Sunday.
