SWAMPSCOTT-Department of Public Works Director Gino Cresta said signs outlining rules and regulations should be installed at the ball fields on Forest Avenue and in Upper Jackson Park this week.Selectman Tony Scibelli, who spearheaded the effort to have the signs installed, said the need for signs became apparent last year.?There were no rules and regulations posted,” he said. “We saw a lot of skateboarding and biking during games. People were driving trucks right through the gate into common areas, so we need to make sure people know what is expected of them.”Scibelli said some of the regulations have been in place for years but because they weren’t posted, people didn’t adhere to them.?Dogs have to be kept on a leash,” he said. “People are supposed to clean up after their dogs and keep dogs off the playing field. But those rules were being broken. Some people actually let their dogs run loose on the field.”Scibelli said public input was solicited at several meetings and the Selectmen also consulted with Cresta, Town Administrator Andrew Maylor and members of Little League before the regulations were finalized.?We’ll see how this works,” he said. “If necessary, it can be tweaked a little.”Cresta said Accurate Graphic of Lynn made the signs, which cost approximately $1,500.?The DPW oversees the parks, so it’s coming out of the DPW budget,” he said.
