George Papagelis, a recent inductee into the Lynn Classical Hall of Fame, was inducted into the National American Softball Association Hall of Fame. He played seventeen years at the professional level.Papagelis spent many years with the Raybestos Cardinals and the Franklin Cardinals of Connecticut, as well as the Allentown, Pa., Sunners.A great defensive catcher, he was selected to the All-American team in 1978, 1985, and 1986. He posted a career .275 batting average, facing the best fast-pitch softball pitchers in the world and also played in many international tournaments. He was a three-time All-American alternate.Papagelis was best known for his baseball ability at Classical, where he earned All-Scholastic status. The 1963 graduate went to Parson College, Iowa, where he played baseball for two years.
