PEABODY-Dialing a wrong number landed a Peabody man in jail for soliciting sex on Saturday, police said.Jani Bida, 42, of 6 Highland Park, Peabody, was arrested and charged with soliciting sex for a fee shortly after 4:30 p.m.According to Peabody Police Lt. Dennis Bonaiuto, a woman called police after receiving phone calls from a man asking for sex. However, she had no idea who was calling her. That day police set up an undercover operation at the Mobile Estates Trailer Park on Route 1 where Bida expected to meet a woman for sex, police said.An undercover female officer was waiting for Bida when he got there, according to police. At one point during a conversation, Bida said he would pay the officer money to have sex, police said.”At some point in the conversation he mentioned sex in exchange for money,” Bonaiuto said.Bida told police he phoned the woman looking for sex because he thought he was dialing an escort service that was advertised in The Boston Phoenix newspaper, police said.Police confirmed with The Phoenix that an ad for an escort service with the woman’s phone number had been placed, but the ad had stopped running a long time ago.Since then, the phone number was disconnected, then reconnected to a woman who had no idea it used to belong to an escort service.”He called a woman who is not involved in anything like that, and she called police,” Bonaiuto said.
