REVERE/SAUGUS-Two similar purse snatchings took place on Saturday in the vicinity of Route 1 in Revere and Saugus, according to police. At 1:45 a.m. Saturday, a suspect entered the back seat of a parked car as a woman was sitting inside before stealing her pocketbook at the 24-hour Dunkin Donuts on Route 1 in Saugus in the parking lot of Prince Pizzeria, police said. The second incident happened at 11 p.m. Saturday at the Hess gas station on Squire Road in Revere. A woman was sitting in a car as her boyfriend went inside to pay for gasoline when a man opened the passenger door, stole her purse and fled, according to police.Revere Police Capt. Michael Murphy said Monday he might contact Saugus police to see if the cases are connected. In the Saugus case, the victim was sitting in the back seat listening to her iPod when the suspect, identified as a black male wearing a baseball cap, opened the door and stole her purse from the back seat, police said. The suspect never spoke a word to the victim, police added. He jumped into a gray Audi and fled southbound on Route 1, according to police. The victim could not provide a good description of the suspect because the theft happened so fast, police said. However, Saugus Police Lt. Michael Annese said police would review the store’s security surveillance camera in hopes of identifying him.In the Revere case, the victim described the suspect as a black male approximately six feet tall. She said he fled the scene in a green Ford Explorer with a broken window, police said. When the Revere robbery occurred, the victim screamed, according to police. The woman’s boyfriend then chased after the suspect before he drove away.
